#Shabu Niku

Last night, I met up with my hospital friends from the Operating Room and Recovery Room and we decided to eat in Shabu Niku. I was a bit horrified since it's a long time I have eaten Korean cuisine (except for Korean ice cream) and maybe my stomach wasn't up for it.

The interiors of the restaurant were of red, black, and white theme. There are actually 2 restaurants and we went inside the part of the restaurant where we could grill our own food. If I'm not mistaken, the other part of the restaurant is exclusively for soups and the like.

Our appetizers which I believe were radish kimchi and potatoes. Lower part of the picture are the pork strips that will be grilled later on.

That's our group goofing around and Jam takes charge of the grilling process. Good thing I wasn't assigned to do the grilling, I suck at it.

And the grilling begins.

To be honest, I have no idea what we were eating so by the time I went home, I did some research based on the pictures I have taken. Haha. We actually ate Samgyeopsal which was grilled pork strips and once cooked, you dip it in sesame oil, pepper, and ssamjang (soybean and chili paste combined) and eat it with rice or wrap it in lettuce.

Japchae, stir fried noodles with beef strips. It sort of reminds me of bihon but a lot spicier.

P671

Mandu, fried dumplings. I love dumplings so this wasn't new to my taste buds.

Nang Lyle, Tintin, John, Omega -- their side of the table.

Me, Jam, Blessy, and Nang Lyle (who had to join because we don't want Jam to die since she's in the middle of a three person picture. Haha.) -- our side of the table.

It was my first time to eat Korean food after 12 years or so? The last time was when I was still in Korea and I had to eat kimchi pancakes for breakfast. Ugh. Anyways, it's still what I imagined it to be -- spicy and everything with a ginseng after taste. I love the ssamjang, and I took the liberty to mix it with my rice.

Shabu Niku is located in the same building as that of Shakey's Lacson, right in front of Pancake House, Trey's and Avenue Suites. The owner was nice enough to entertain us and to apologize if it was seem that they weren't prepared because it was their soft opening last night and they plan to fully open and be functional by July 7, 2012.

Happy eating!
